Salt From the Himalayan's.....Really?

Himalayan Sea Salt
It is said all the time… “Mother nature provides us what we need to stay healthy.”  When the 2 Prickly Pears discovered sea salt it changed many things for us.  Pam (PP#2) uses it in her skin care line and Terry (PP#1) uses it on her caramels.

Sea Salt is organic, unlike table salt that has been processed to remove trace minerals. During the processing of table salt anti caking agents, iodide aluminum silicate and chlorine derivatives (to make it white) are added.  Sea salt is obtained directly through the evaporation of seawater.  Sea salt does not undergo the same processing as table salt, and therefore retains trace minerals including calcium, magnesium and potassium.

Here are some of the health benefits of sea salt.
  • Sea Salts helps strengthen the immune system to help fight colds, fever, flu and allergies just to name a few.
  • Helps the body digest food faster by creating digestive juices that help prevent constipation and weight gain.
  • Helps with skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis.   See article by Clairalience on the health benefits of  Himalayan Sea Salt.
  • Can help reduce cholesterol and high blood pressure.
  • Can help reduce the need for insulin in diabetics.
  • Sea salt contains small amounts of potassium which help with muscle aches.  However it helps the body absorb potassium from other foods.
  • Helps the body maintain two hormones (serotonin and melatonin) that helps a person deal with stress.  When these two hormones are in balance you will feel better, more relaxed and sleep better.
  • About ¼ the salt found in the human body is stored in the bones.  When your body lacks salt and water it will begin drawing the sodium out of the bones.  It is important to balance your water and salt intake to help prevent osteoporosis.
It is important to buy your sea salt from a reputable company to ensure the salt has been mined properly. One of our favorite place to buy sea salt is San Francisco Salt Company. They have a great variety to pick from and their customer service is great!

Remember everything in moderation and always check with your physician before changing your diet if you are being treated for a certain illness.
