Treating Your Dog with Easy-to-Make Dog Treats

Where are the TREATS mom???
Cactus Flower Pam has two Cairn Terriers  named Howie and Gusie.  These boys are completely spoiled and very cool dudes.  They love treats, as all of us do.  Unfortunately, many treats in the store are costly and loaded with fillers that are not necessarily good for the dogs, such as corn and by-products.

Many of the commercial dog treats contain ingredients that cause your dog to be overweight and unhealthy.  These treats can be high in fat and empty calories.  Preservatives and chemicals have been shown to cause bad behavior in dogs. Many of these treats have corn and by-products as their main ingredient.  Corn can be difficult to digest and cause gastric discomfort.  It is vital that you read the ingredient list for the food you buy for your dog just like you would for yourself.

There is a way to know exactly what your dog is eating when it is treat time. It is worth your time and your dogs health to make your own treats.  It isn't difficult and doesn't take many ingredients.   In fact, the treats we make for Howie and Gusie are just like making cookies.

Dog Treat Recipe:

2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup oil
2 tsp vanilla
1/2 cups water
2 egg
3 T Peanut Butter

Combine all ingredients in food processor to create a ball.  Scoop dough to make desired size biscuits and place on baking sheets.

Bake 20 minutes at 350 degrees.  Allow biscuits to cool.  Store in air tight container.

So the next time your pups are deserving a treat for being a good companion and a loyal pet, considering giving them something you made with your love.  Make your own dog treats!
